Why contribute to Joseph Wright's campaign?

Joseph Wright is the only prosecutor running to lead the prosecutor office. Joseph was the first prosecutor to convict a police officer in Prince George's County.  He then prosecuted the second officer, Keith Washington, who shot and killed a furniture delivery man.  Both of these prosecutions were turning points in citizen/police relations and paved the way for police accountability.

When asked why did he prosecute the police officers, Wright believes that "everyone should be held to the same standard, and that includes those with the responsibility to guard and protect".

Community Prosecution

As the County’s first community prosecutor, Joseph Wright understands the value of community, prosecutors and police working together toward common goals.

Through nuisance abatement, he remedied problems in the central county working with the Kettering Civic Federation to alter the habits of a commercial strip mall in their community.  Young people loitered in the neighborhood, littered drug paraphernalia, and caused excessive police resources to be dispatched. He worked with police and community to determine the problem and remedy the solution. It is now a safe calm community.

In College Park and Suitland, he handled two different cases involving motels that attracted pimps, prostitutes, and drug elements -- the businesses were the magnet for crime in their corridors.  Joseph worked with the respective communities to determine the problem and create appropriate effective solutions.  It is this kind of partnership that will continue to mark my administration.

Domestic Violence

The County continues to have too many lives destroyed by domestic violence. Joseph Wright has been vigilantly working with the public trying to stop domestic violence. He has raised funds, spoken at symposiums, and lectured at high schools. Through school outreach, Joseph learned that many of these behaviors start at a very young age. We must continue to educate the public and modify behavior and speak out about the terrible scar on the County.
